Belle Plaine’s girls’ basketball team (7-2) opened the 2022 part of their season with a 55-42 SICL win over Colfax-Mingo (4-5), at Colfax on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022. The team was powered by a 21-0 opening quarter.

CM was led by Abigayle Rawlins with 20 points. The team was 13 of 50 for field goals, 6 of 17 for three-pointers, and 10 of 14 for free throws. CM had 30 rebounds, 10 assists, five steals, no blocks, 24 turnovers and 23 fouls.

Bree Shaull led Belle Plaine with 19 points. Olivia Bohlen had 14 and Mandy Chizek had 13. With 10 rebounds each were Jacy Gates and Chizek. Bohlen had eight assists and four steals. Bohlen also had seven blocks. The team was 20 of 50 for field goals, 2 of 8 for three-pointers, and 13 of 27 for free throws. The team had 36 rebounds, 14 assists, 14 steals, seven blocks, 25 turnovers and 14 fouls.

Belle Plaine’s girls’ basketball won in non-conference action, Thursday, Jan. 6, over North Tama (1-9), 61-34. Statistics are coming.

Belle Plaine hosts North Mahaska (8-1) Friday.

Belle Plaine (7-2) opened the 2022 part of its boys’ basketball season with a 55-46 win at Colfax-Mingo (2-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2021.

Ben DeMeulenaere led Belle Plaine with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Keaton Parrott had four assists. The team was 22 of 49 from the field, 2 of 10 for three-pointers, and 9 of 15 for free throws. The team had 39 rebounds, 18 assists, six steals, five blocks, 14 turnovers and 16 fouls.

Cael Bracewell led CM with 12 points. The team was 16 of 54 for field goals, 8 of 30 for three-pointers, and 6 of 11 for free throws. They had 28 rebounds, 12 assists, nine steals, six blocks, 11 turnovers and 19 fouls.

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2021, at Traer

North Tama 63, Belle Plaine 53

Belle Plaine lost in non-conference action Thursday, Jan. 6, at Traer (5-5), 63-53.

Gabe Kopriva led North Tama with 20 points. The team was 21 of 61 for field goals, 8 of 35 for three-pointers, and 13 of 24 for free throws. NT had 31 rebounds, 10 assists, 15 steals, three blocks, 15 turnovers and 21 fouls.
