Benton girls’ basketball at Marion

Benton Community’s girl’s basketball team (8-3) defeated Marion (6-4) in WaMaC action.

Jenna Twedt led Benton with 17 points. Emma Townsley added 12. Townsley also had seven rebounds. Tweet had three steals. The team was 13 of 40 for field goals, 5 of 20 for three-pointers, and 15 of 21 for free throws. The team had 34 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, two blocks, 10 turnovers and 13 fouls. Marion was 12 of 42 for field goals, 1 of 7 for three-pointers, and 14 of 20 for free throws. They had 30 rebounds, seven assists, six steals, three blocks, 11 turnovers and 15 fouls. Ella Bockenstedt led Marion with 13 points.

Benton hosts Waverly-Shell Rock (9-2) on Monday, Jan. 10, at Van Horne, and hosts South Tama on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Benton then hosts Independence (3-8) on Friday, Jan. 14.

Benton (2-7) lost in WaMaC boys’ basketball action to Marion (8-3).

Benton was 17 of 38 for field goals, 4 of 14 for three-pointers, and 9 of 12 for free throws. They had 20 rebounds, 13 assists, seven steals, one block, 18 turnovers and 11 fouls. Aiden Harris had 14 points and seven rebounds. Owen Tjelmeland had five assists. Tjelmeland also had three steals.

Marion was 26 of 51 for field goals, seven of 25 for three-pointers, and 6 of 8 for free throws. They had 24 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals, three blocks, 10 turnovers and 13 fouls. Brayson Laube had 16 points for Marion.

Benton hosts Waverly-Shell Rock (7-2) on Monday, Jan. 10, in non-conference action. They travel to South Tama (0-11) on Tuesday, Jan. 11, and travel to Independence (4-5).

Belle Plaine girls’ basketball at Belle Plaine

Belle Plaine (8-3) lost in home SICL girls’ basketball action to No. 8 North Mahaska (9-1).

Layla Hargis led North Mahaska with 22 points. They were 25 of 70 for field goals, 9 of 26 for three-pointers and 4 of 4 for free throws. They had 42 rebounds, 17 assists, nine steals, eight blocks, eight turnovers and 11 fouls.

Belle Plaine statistics are coming.

The girls host Don Bosco (1-8) on Monday, Jan. 10, travel to Montezuma (9-2) on Tuesday, Jan. 11, then host HLV (3-9) on Friday, Jan. 14.

North Mahaska (9-2) defeated Belle Plaine (7-4) in SICL home boys’ basketball action. 

Ben DeMeulenaere led Belle Plaine with 11 points and nine rebounds. Wyatt Kuch had four assists. Brooks DeMeulenaere had two steals. The team was 12 of 46 for field goals, 1 of 16 for three-pointers, and 8 of 14 for free throws. Belle Plaine had 26 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals, four blocks, 20 turnovers and eight fouls.

Nash Smith led North Mahaska with 22 points. The team was 30 of 63 for field goals, 5 of 13 for three-pointers, and 6 of 8 for free throws. They had 45 rebounds, 21 assists, 11 turnovers and 12 fouls.

Belle Plaine travels to Don Bosco (2-7) on Monday, Jan. 10. They then travel to Montezuma (7-3) on Tuesday, Jan. 11, then host HLV (1-10) on Friday, Jan. 14.
