Benton Community (15-3) was led by Emma Townsley with 11 points. Piper Nelson had 14 rebounds. Jenna Twedt had seven assists and four steals. Benton was 20 of 57 for field goals, 5 of 26 for three-pointers, and 6 of 17 for free throws. Benton had 45 rebounds, 13 assists, 20 steals, 12 turnovers and seven fouls.

South Tama (1-16) had 18 rebounds, no assists, six steals, one block, 30 turnovers and 17 fouls. They were 2 of 28 for field goals, 1 of 8 for three-pointers and 3 of 4 for free throws.

Benton’s next game is Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Independence (4-13). They play Vinton-Shellsburg (11-6) at Van Horne on Friday, Feb. 4.

With 15 points each for Benton were Evan Daugherty and Blake Daugherty. Noah Franck and Will Shaw had seven rebounds each. Owen Tjelmeland had five assists. Aiden Harris had two blocks. The team was 19 of 39 for field goals, 13 of 27 for three-pointers, and 5 of 10 for free throws. The team had 29 rebounds, 17 assists, five steals, two blocks, 14 turnovers and 12 fouls.

South Tama was 16 of 45 for field goals, 4 of 19 for three-pointers, and 9 of 11 for free throws. They had 17 rebounds, nine assists, 10 steals, nine turnovers and nine fouls.

Kinnick Pusteoska led Solon (10-7) with 11 points. The team was 18 of 40 for field goals, 5 of 18 for three-pointers, and 18 of 25 for free throws. Solon had 17 rebounds, 12 assists, 16 steals, one block, seven turnovers and six fourls.

Benton hosts Independence (9-8) on Tuesday, Feb. 1. They travel to Vinton-Shellsburg (2-14) on Friday, Feb. 4.

Eli Ehlen had five steals. The team was 29 of 61 for field goals, 6 of 14 for three-pointers, and 11 of 17 for free throws. Belle Plaine had 37 rebounds, 22 assists, 15 steals, three blocks, eight turnovers and 11 fouls.

Tri-County (0-6) was 16 of 43 for field goals, 5 of 14 for three-pointers, and 3 of 8 for three-pointers. They had 21 rebounds, five assists, five steals, one block, 22 turnovers and 14 fouls.

Ehlen also had two blocks and 11 rebounds. The team was 20 of 58 for field goals, 4 of 22 for three-pointers, and 10 of 17 for free throws. Belle Plaine had 41 rebounds., 16 assists, six steals, three blocks, 11 turnovers and 19 fouls.

Sigourney (9-6) was led by Bo Schmidt with 17 points. The team was 18 of 45 for field goals, 9 of 30 for three-pointers, and 16 of 28 for free throws. They had 32 rebounds, 12 assists, six steals, no blocks, 14 turnovers and 15 fouls.

Belle Plaine (9-6) travels to Iowa Valley (8-3) on Tuesday, Feb. 1, and hosts GMG (3-8) on Friday, Feb. 4.

Belle Plaine was assigned to District 7 in Class 1A for the district tournament. Sites will be determined later. First round games in both classes begin Monday, February 14. Class 1A features preliminary round games for two to four teams per district, starting Friday, February 11.
