Coming to the EV History Center…

Collecting Autograph Books with Polly Lepic

When Polly Lepic from Iowa City visits the English Valleys History Center on Sunday, June 26, she plans to bring along some 19th century autograph books from Iowa and the Midwest. These promise to be of interest as she explains and displays some of her collection, including an autograph book from the Hinkletown area.

Polly is a retired Iowa City art teacher who was born and raised in Fort Madison, Iowa. She is a member of Questers and gave this presentation to them a few years ago. Her interest in autograph books stems from her admiration of beautiful handwriting, since she is a calligrapher herself.

Her interest has grown to include the history of the area and immigration (many books have pages written in German and Norwegian) and genealogical implications.

The EV History Center is located at 108 N. Main Street in North English, and all are invited to attend this event at no charge. Donations are accepted.
