BC begins June baseball action

Benton had five hits in the first game at Solon. Casey Gallagher was 1 for 3. Lane Kaestner was 2 for 3. Cael Kaestner was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Easton Patterson was 1 for 3. The team had three errors. Solon had four errors. Zane Frese took the loss on the mound. He threw for five innings, allowed four hits, seven runs (three earned), walked four, hit two batters and struck out three. Colby Lennie threw for one inning, allowed one hit and one run.

Benton had seven hits in the second game, Thys was 1 for 5. Wyatt Rinderknecht was 1 for 2. Gallagher was 1 for 4. Frese was 1 for 1 with one RBI. Cael Kaestner was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Blake Daugherty was 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Benton had no errors. Lane Kaestner was the losing pitcher, allowing eight hits, five earned runs, walking two and striking out six. Thys threw for two innings, walked to and hit one batter. He struck out three.

Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Van Horne

Benton had two hits in a home contest against Mount Vernon. Thys was 1 for 1. Gallagher was 1 for 2 with one RBI. Patterson was 1 for 2 with one RBI. Gallagher was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits in five innings of work. He allowed one earned run. Thys threw for two innings, hit one batter and struck out two.

Benton was allowed no hits or runs in the second game. The team had no errors. Benton had five pitchers in the game. Patterson took the loss, throwing 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, five runs (four earned), walking three and striking out two. Evan Daugherty threw for 1 inning, and allowed one run. Lennie threw for one out, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and hit two batters. Hunter Vargason threw for one inning, allowed two hits, three earned runs, walked two and struck out two. Ryan Finn threw for one inning, allowed three hits, one earned run, walked no one and struck out three.

Friday, June 3, at East Marshall

Benton had a 14-run second inning against East Marshall in non-conference action. The Bobcats had 14 hits. Thys was 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI. Frese was 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs. Gallagher was 1 for 2 with a double. Lane Kaestner was 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Patterson 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Cael Kaestner was 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs. Evan Daugherty was 1 for 1 with a double and two RBIs. Lennie was 1 for 1.

Benton travels to Clear Creek Amana on Monday, June 6. They host Marion Thursday, June 9. Benton then hosts Vinton-Shellsburg for one game on Friday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m.
