Lady Bobcats get two wins at Independence

Benton picked up two WaMaC wins at Independence on Monday, June 20. In the first game Benton had 20 hits. Hope Moore was 2 for 5 with one RBI. Hannah Greiner was 2 for 2 with one RBI. Ana Glawe was 1 for 2 with a double and one RBI. McKee was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Jessa DeMoss was 4 for 4 with three doubles and four RBIs. Gorkow was 1 for 4 with one RBI. Jaida Lyons was 3 for 4 with one RBI. Lexie Pippert was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Emma Townsley was 3 for 4. The team had one error. Winning pitcher DeMoss threw for five innings, allowed four hits, three runs (two earned), walked five and struck out four.

Benton held on for an 8-7 win in the second game. The team had 11 hits. Hope Moore was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Greiner was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. DeMoss was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Gorkow was 1 for 4 with a double. Lyons had one RBI. Pippert was 1 for 3 with a double. Townsley was 3 for 3 with one RBI. Benton had no errors. Winning pitcher Hope Moore threw for seven innings, allowed 12 hits, seven earned runs, walked one and struck out five.

Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Solon

Benton split a doubleheader at Solon. In the first game, Benton had 12 hits. Townsley was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Glawe was 1 for 3 with one RBI. McKee was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Greiner was 1 for 4. Jaida Lyons was 2 for 4. DeMoss was 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Hope Moore was 1 for 3. The team had one error. Losing pitcher DeMoss threw for six innings, allowed seven hits, eight runs (seven earned), walked five, hit two batters and struck out one.

Benton bounced back in the second game, winning 18-5. The team had 19 hits. Townsley was 3 for 3 with two triples and one RBI. Greiener was 3 for 3 with one RBI. Glawe was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. McKee was 1 for 3. DeMoss was 3 for 4 with a double, home run and five RBIs. Gorkow was 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs. Lyons was 1 for 4. Hope Moore was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. The team had no errors. Greiner threw for one inning, allowed no hits, no runs, walked one and struck out one. Hope Moore won the game, throwing for four innings, allowing seven hits, five earned runs, walking three, hitting two batters and striking out two.

Benton Community split a doubleheader with North Linn, winning the first game, 3-2. Benton had eight hits. Emma Townsley was 1 for 4. Hannah Greiner was 2 or 4 with a double and one RBI. Ana Glawe was 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI. Gabby McKee was 1 for 4 with one RBI. Sarah Gorkow was 1 for 2. Hope Moore was 1 for 3. the team had two errors. Winning pitcher Jessa DeMoss threw for seven innings, allowed five hits, two earned runs, walked four and struck out six.

The Lady Bobcats (20-10) host Williamsburg (21-10) in a WaMaC showdown on Monday, June 27, with the first game starting at 5:30 p.m. WaMaC action continues on Wednesday, June 29, at Beckman (6-18). The first game is 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, June 20, 2022, Benton hosts Mount Vernon (26-3), with the first game at 5:30 p.m. One Friday, July 1, 2022, they play North Scott (20-6) at Iowa City West. The game starts at 2:45 p.m. Benton then plays again in the Rick Doran Softball Classic, facing Iowa City West (8-19) at 6:15 p.m. Class 4A Region 6 action starts Saturday, July 9, at Van Horne, when Benton hosts either Waterloo East (9-23) or Charles City (13-6). The game starts at 7 p.m.
