Benton Community (18-19) defeated Decorah (22-11) on the road in Class 3A regional baseball action on Friday, July 8.

Benton had six hits in the contest. Zane Frese was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Casey Gallagher was 1 for 4 with a double. Cael Kaestner was 1 for 2 with a double. Easton Patterson was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Benton had three strikeouts and six walks. Benton stole six bases, with two by Patterson. The team had no errors. Zane Frese picked up the win, throwing for six innings, allowing nine hits, five earned runs, three walks, and striking out two. Jordan Thys threw for one inning, allowing no hits or runs, walking two and striking out one.

Benton travels to No. 6 Western Dubuque (27-11) in Farley for the second round in Region 3 on Monday, July 11. The game starts at 7 p.m.
