Soccer teams win first-round games at home

Piper Nelson had five goals. With one goal each were Delaynee Slouha, Ellie Williamson, Ashlee Michels, Kyla Voelkel and LeeAnn Hlas. Olivia Janss had two assists. With one assist each were Kiera Coffin and Kyla Voelkel. Nelson had 10 shots on goal. The team had 35 shots. Voelkel added seven shots and Michels ahd five. With three each were Janss and Delaynee Slouha. With two each were Coffin and Williamson. Wth one each were Ava Meyer, Pieng Saysuib and Hlass.

Benton (5-11) traveled to Nevada on Wednesday, May 17, and lost in tournament action to Nevada (12-3), 10-0.

Class 2A-4 boys’ soccer at Van Horne

First round

Benton (7-9) 6, Anamosa (2-13) 0

Jacob Bange and Nathan Rottman had two goals each. Casey Gessner and Ty Kulbartz had one goal each. Rottman had two assists. Benton had 16 shots on goal, led by Kulbartz with five. With three each were Casey Gessner, Bange and Rottman. Clayton Sebetka had one save.

Benton travels to Williamsburg (12-3) on Monday, May 22, in the second round of the 2A-4 tournament.
