Routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors

VINTON – It was routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors at their meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Benton County Service Center in Vinton.

The board approved filing of the ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) annual report.

Tuesday, May 5 at 9:15 a.m. was set for a land use change hearing for Dylan Felton, for land in Section 21, Polk Township. 

An abatement of taxes was approved for Parcel 360-00540. 

Treasurer Melinda Schoettmer reported the Iowa Department of Transportation is changing its driver’s license system in January 2027. Training will start in June. Through streamlining, Schoettmer felt the system makes the process more efficient. The motor vehicle system will be updated later. 

The board approved hiring of a part-time driver for Benton County Transportation.

Vacation carryover was approved for Mark Erickson, Benton County Transportation.

The board accepted the winning sealed bid for sale of county property (Cherveny Wildlife Area).

A hearing was held on FY 2026 Budget Amendment No. 3. The amendment was explained and approved. 

The following areas were amended.

Expenditures Amendment

Public Safety $ 0

Physical Health & Social Services $ 144,000

County Environment & Education $ 88,300 

Administration $ 65,000

REVENUES

Intergovernmental $ 88,300

The meeting closed with budget work.
