Benton supervisors sets land use hearing

VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, dealing with roads, land use, weeds and medical services. The meeting was at the service center in Vinton.

A public hearing was set Tuesday, May 19, at 9:15 a.m. for a land use change for Theodore and Lori Burr, for land in Section 28, Iowa Township. 

Tax abatements were approved for two parcels.

Weed Commissioner Eric Schares met with the board on the noxious weed public notice. He also gave an update on roadside management.

The board met with sheriff’s officials on federal inmates. The new contract begins on May 1. They discussed medical matters with inmates and who is responsible for these. The board approved the contract. 

Emergency Medical Services claims were approved. 

Minor changes were approved for the Secondary Roads Construction Program. Engineer Myron Parizek presented the changes and explained how the program is funded by federal, state and local funds. The Iowa Department of Transportation has reviewed and accepted the plan. 

An agreement was approved with the Iowa Department of Transportation on intersection improvements. They are considering rumble strips on approaches for several roads intersecting with Highway 30.
