VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution at their meeting on Tuesday, May 5, commemorating the upcoming 250th Anniversary of the United States. Benton County Attorney Ray Lough presented the proclamation and a plaque and a flag.
Land use
The following land use change hearings were set for June 2, 2026
- 9:15 a.m. Mark and Kimberly Noe. Section 7, Harrison Township.
- 9:30 a.m. Jordan and Jana Haerther. Section 22, Fremont Township.
- 9:45 a.m. Ben Grant. Section 4, Canton Township.
A hearing was scheduled for a land use change, but the applicant withdrew.
Other business
A resolution was approved on a 28E Agreement with Tama County for Collections.
A tax abatement presented by Treasurer Melinda Schoettmer was approved.
A Class C Liquor License was approved for the Blairstown Lions Club. This is for Sauerkraut Days.
The board approved the FY25 Central Service Cost Allocation Plan.
The board approved word changes to the Safety Footwear Policy and Sick Leave Donation Policy Resolutions. The changes were explained by Lough.
The board and Lough talked about juvenile detention. They will bring this up again next week.
The Morgan Valley power plant project was discussed at the close of the meeting. The issue is getting attention beyond the local level, according to Jon Lee, who lives just across the county line in Linn County. Alliant is considering a new power plant. He urged meeting with the Linn County Supervisors. He thanked the board for sending a letter to area officials about this. Supervisor Chairman Tracy Seeman said he plans to attend the utility meeting in Des Moines if that ever happens.
