VINTON – It was routine business for the Benton County Board of Supervisors at their meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Service Center in Vinton.

They approved a LOSST (Local Option Sales and Service Tax) gift for the Van Horne Fire Department. This is for a 10 percent match of $52,179.76 for a new fire truck.

They approved renewing a contract for 2026-2028 Cost Allocation Plans with the Cost Advisory Services Inc. The contract is for three years.

A farm exemption was approved for Bradley Rick for land in Section 1, Benton Township.

A hearing was held for a change in land use for Nathaniel and Grace Holly for land in Section 2, Canton Township. This is for a single family dwelling. The change was approved.

A land use hearing was held for Nick and Kaylee McQuilkin for land in Section 3, Bruce Township. It will be for a dog kennel. The request is consistent with the land use policy.

There was discussion on the need for insurance for events that occur on county property, office space, and air quality in Linn County affected by data centers. The county can’t be more restrictive than the state in air quality.

The board met in closed session for Benton County Attorney Ray Lough to discuss strategy in litigation.
