Public invited to attend a meeting June 30 in Atkins, Iowa at the American Legion Post 217 Hall, 89 Main Ave.

ATKINS, Iowa — June 1, 2026 — The Save Morgan Valley group will host a public town hall meeting on Tuesday, June 30th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 217 (89 Main Ave) in Atkins, Iowa, to discuss the proposed Morgan Valley Energy Center natural gas plant, which is being positioned to support future high-energy users like data centers, and its potential impact on the local community. As data centers expand across Iowa, brining significant power consumption, water use, and infrastructure demands, the proposed plant represents a critical piece of that buildout.
The meeting aims to provide residents with clear, factual information about the proposal, including
environmental, economic, and community considerations. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and engage in open dialogue about the future of the area.
“Community involvement is essential in decisions that affect our health, environment, and way of life,” said
Jane Scheer, Member of Save Morgan Valley. “Residents deserve transparency about what is driving this
project. This town hall is an opportunity for residents to learn more, ask questions and make their voices heard.”
The event is open to the public and welcomes all interested community members, including local residents,
neighboring communities, landowners, business owners, and other stakeholders.
