Belle Plaine (4-1) picked up a homecoming win Friday, Sept. 25, at home, defeating North Mahaska (1-4), 52-14, in Class A District Football action.
The Plainsmen passed for nine yards, as Ben DeMeulenaere was 2 of 5 for 9 yards and one interception. Belle’s ground game had 479 yards. Luke DeMeulenaere carried 26 times for 338 yards and five touchdowns. Ean Allie added 60 yards and one touchdown. Connor Timm had six carries for 59 yards. Jackson Tegeler caught one pass for 7 yards. Jaxon Kressley caught two passes for nine yards.
Chase Wickwire had 5 total tackles with three solo tackles. He also had 1.5 sacks. Jax Stamp had 0.5 sacks. Luke DeMeulenaere had one sack. Wickwire also recovered one fumble. Kressley returned two punts for 58 yards. Luke DeMeulenaere returned one kickoff for 42 yards.
Belle Plaine hosts Lynnville-Sully (1-3) on Friday, Oct. 2. The district showdown is Friday, Oct. 9, at Grundy Center (5-0).

Benton faces Grinnell

Grinnell (4-1) pulled away from Benton Community (2-3) at Benton’s homecoming football contest Friday, Sept. 25, at Vinton, 34-6. It was a close game at the half, 13-6. Grinnell closed the second half with 21 unanswered point.
Benton had 95 yards passing, compared to 88 for Grinnell. Grinnell had 295 yards rushing, to 103 for Benton.
Colin Buch was 13 of 24 in passing with one touchdown for Benton. Lawrence Wallace led Benton in rushing with 72 yards on 11 carries. Wyatt Hunter led Grinnell in rushing with 221 yards and three touchdowns. Jacob Brecht had six catches for 68 yards and one touchdown, which was a 28-yard strike from Buch.
Jacob Brecht had 13.5 total tackles. Cade Timmerman added 11. Sam Wallace returned four kickoffs for 50 yards. Brecht returned one for 20 yards.
