Benton Community (15-7) won its first round game in 4A girls’ basketball action, defeating Waterloo East at home on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2021, at Van Horne, 58-38.
Jenna Twedt led Benton with 27 points. Grace Embretson added 11 points. Peyton Pfiffner had nine rebounds. Twedt dished out five assists. She also had four steals. The team was 21 of 58 for field goals, 8 of 26 for three-pointers and 8 of 11 for free throws. Benton had 46 rebounds, five steals and 17 turnovers.
Waterloo East was 13 of 65 for field goals, 6 of 24 for three-pointers and 6 of 9 for free throws. They had 29 rebounds, four steals and 15 turnovers. Key’Lajaha Jefferson-Putman led East with 13 points.

Benton Community’s girls’ basketball team (15-8) lost in Class 4A basketball action Saturday, Feb. 20, at Alleman, to No. 11 North Polk (15-7), 58-48.
Jenna Twedt scored 21 for Benton. Zoey Junge had 11 rebounds. With two steals each were Alyse Harvey, Grace Embretson and Junge. Harvey blocked one shot. The team was 18 of 56 for field goals, 6 of 25 for three-pointers and 6 of 9 for free throws. Benton had 27 rebounds, seven steals and 12 turnovers.
North Polk was 20 of 46 for field goals, 2 of 10 for three-pointers and 16 of 26 for free throws. They had 34 rebounds, 11 steals and 18 turnovers. Lucy Schaffer led North Polk with 24 points.
North Polk advances to face No. 2 Ballard (20-1), Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Ballard.
