Greetings Van Horne Area Residents!
Well what can I say the weather was true to form after dumping plenty of snow events, even an old time blizzard, and then threw us into the deep freeze for two weeks. As I write this it is supposed to get warmer in the next few days.
Kind of hard to write about any happenings in town, between the COVID virus and cold I don’t think hardly anybody was out and about unless you had to be. I think the Lions are going to be starting their breakfasts soon and the Legion is going to start some fish or chicken sandwiches soon.
Starting in March Sons of Legion will resume their tenderloin and chicken sandwich meals on the third Monday of month. Track practice begins March 1 so watch out for kids on the streets, as I don’t think they will be able to run on the track for a while.
Summer ball will be starting registration soon, and I believe it will be online.
I guess with last two items we can start thinking about warmer weather anyway. Your thought for the month is from me — Stay healthy and warm.
Your Mayor Marty.
Have a great rest of the month.
PET LICENSE: It is that time of year again.
FUTURE GREEN: Future Green is looking for new members to help get new trees planted in Van Horne. The last few years, the group has struggled to find places to plant trees and to get volunteer hours, now that Derecho 2020 has provided many bare spots in town. We need new members to get Future Green active again. The goal is to meet quarterly, more if needed, and to once again qualify for Tree City USA and to apply for grants to plant trees. If you are interested in helping or donating, please contact Darcy (319-361-0290) or Lou (641-660-6188)..
FIRE HYDRANTS: With all of the snow we have had recently, please take a moment and check the fire hydrants near your home and possibly shovel them out if need be. We all hope that they are never needed, but when they are, every second helps.
