Ellen Gackle became the most recent Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) Prevention Specialist to become a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS).
Certification involves application to the Iowa Board of Certification, coursework and an exam with the goal of enhancing the quality of substance use services in the State of Iowa by certifying professionals at a high level.
ASAC is a substance use disorder prevention and treatment agency, primarily serving Linn, Benton, Jones, Jackson and Clinton counties. ASAC’s prevention services aim to prevent the underage use and the abuse, of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. ASAC leads collaborative public health efforts in research and education and offers a variety of programs and activities to assist communities, schools, workplaces, and organizations address substance abuse issues.
