VINTON – It was a brief meeting for the Benton County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the service center in Vinton.

The board acknowledged the early retirement of Dana Burmeister as transportation director as of Sept. 20. They will begin work to get a replacement.

A land use hearing was held for Dan Wirtanen for land in Parcel A, Section 15, Fremont Township. He plans to continue an Airbnb on the property. The land use change is needed because it is a non-agricultural use. A new septic system is needed. This will bring the property into compliance, according to Land Use Administrator Marc Greenlee. The change was approved.

A Class C Liquor License was approved for MidWest Sips.

The union contract with the sheriff’s department was explained. Sheriff Ron Tippett explained the wage scale, holidays, health insurance, uniform allowance and longevity. No action was taken. They also approved changing the employment status from part-time to full-time for Heather Baker.

Supervisor Gary Bierschenk gave an update on the Legion Hall in Atkins, which was given to Fremont Township, and the ServiceMaster bill from the derecho.
