Belle Plaine’s football team rolled to a 54-12 win Friday, Sept. 24, in Belle Plaine’s homecoming contest.

Belle Plaine’s Ben DeMeulenaere was 6 of 11 for passing for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Gavin Ward had a touchdown catch for 35 yards. Cejay Mumby had two catches for 49 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown catch. Connor Timm had two catches for seven yards.

Belle Plaine rushed for 393 yards. Timm had 22 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Ben DeMeulenaere had 12 carries for 87 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremy Reineke had 11 carries for 46 yards. Brooks DeMeulenaere had seven carries for 64 yards. Ty Alcott had seven carries for 44 yards. Gavin Ward had one carry for 30 yards.

Chase Wickwire had 8.5 total tackles, including five solo tackles. Brooks DeMeulenaere recovered two fumbles. Ben DeMeulenaere had an interception that he returned 55 yards for touchdown. Eli Ehlen also had an interception return for eight yards. Timm returned one kickoff for 20 yards. Alcott had one punt return for 10 yards. Xander Osborne had nine kickoffs for 282 yards. Ben DeMeulenaere had two two-point conversions. Mumby had one.

Belle Plaine (4-1) travels to Odgen (4-1) on Friday, Oct. 1, in a district showdown.

Benton Community used a big fourth-quarter rally to defeat Mount Vernon (3-2) in Class 3A football action, Friday, Sept. 24, at Van Horne.

In passing Colin Buch was 12 for 19 for 137 yards and two interceptions.

Benton rushed for 135 yards, with Buch having nine carries for 41 yards and one touchdown. Jacob Brecht had 20 carries for 97 yards and one touchdown. Sam Wallace had three catches for 15 yards. Aiden Harris had three catches for 28 yards. Brecht had four catches for 67 yards. Will Shaw had two catches for 27 yards.

Lawrence Wallace had 12.5 total tackles, 10 solo tackles and two sacks. Brecht had 12 total tackles with 11 solo tackles. Brecht also recovered one fumble. Brecht returned to kickoffs for 28 yards. Ryan Tjelmeland had one return for eight yards.

Bjorn Sunesen had five kickoffs for 287 yards and three touchbacks. Nathan Rottman was 2 for 2 or field goals, the longest being a 35-yarder. Buch had three punts for 103 yards.

Benton (4-1) travels to Vinton-Shellsburg (2-3) on Friday, Oct. 1. Varsity action is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
