VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors discussed pioneer cemeteries at their Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, meeting at the service center in Vinton.
An end-of-the-year report was given by Wayne Shannon and Roy Schulze of the Pioneer Cemetery Commission. They are working on signs and surveying. They also talked about office equipment. They are also looking to get signs for their vehicles and photo ID. The location of the cemetery north of Blairstown was also addressed, as well as the location of the stones from the cemetery. The commission would like to set up a monument to the names that they know are in Springville Cemetery, and hopefully a marker for each grave.
Vacation carryover was approved for Sarah Wagner of social services.
The embargo was removed on a bridge in Bruce Township. This is north of Dysart. It had a 15-ton weight limit. Engineer Myron Parizek also said paving is planned for the culvert north of Luzerne. He said grooving was also done on the bridge north of Blairstown.
The board approved hiring a part-time correctional officer at the sheriff’s office. Hired was Brian Sondag with a starting wage of $17.91.
In discussion at the end of the meeting, the board discussed rooms at the service center for the Abbe Center and how they rooms might affect airflow. Supervisor Chairman Tracy Seeman is coordinating this. They hope to have this done by January.
