Mitchell-Birdsell threw for four innings for the loss, allowing six hits, six runs (four earned), walking six and striking out six. Mason Havill threw for three innings, allowed four hits, three runs (two earned), walked two and struck out four.

Frese was the winning pitcher, threw for four innings, allowed three hits, three earned runs, walking six, hitting two batters and striking out four. Volesky threw for 1 2/3 innings, allowed one hit, one walk and striking out one. Holden Zamastil threw for 1 1/3 innings, allowing one hit, one earned run walking two and striking out two.

Gallagher threw for 3 1/3 innings, allowed five hits, four earned runs, and walked two. Volesky took the loss, throwing for 1 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, three walks and one strikeout. Nolan Mears threw for 2 2/3 innings, allowed two hits, two earned runs, hit one batter and struck out one.

Next week, Benton travels to Cedar Rapids Prairie for two games on Monday, July 6, at 5 p.m. They host West Liberty on Tuesday, July 7, in one varsity game at 7 p.m. Benton plays at Center Point-Urbana on Wednesday, July 8, at 5 p.m. Class 3A Substate 3A baseball tourney action begins Friday, July 10, against Vinton-Shellsburg at Van Horne, starting at 7 p.m.
