VINTON – The Benton County Board of Supervisors talked maintenance at their Tuesday, July 14, 2026, meeting at the service center in Vinton.

The board approved Resolution 26 on Homestead, Military Tax Credits and Disable Veterans Homestead Credits for the 2026 Assessment. These won’t go into effect until next year.

Quarterly reports were approved from the recorder, auditor, sheriff, Veterans Affairs and General Assistance. 

Rick Wood, Benton County Maintenance, gave the board an update on maintenance projects. He has two quotes for the sidewalk at the service center. Approaches also need to be torn out. The supervisors went outside to look at the sidewalk. Wood said something also needs to be done to deal with the water problem around the courthouse. The outside needs to be sealed, Wood said. They also talked about tiling and window work. They need to determine what needs to be done before it can be sent out for bids. The board and Wood also talked about the need for more time to clean the floors of the service center. 

The board approved the treasurer’s semiannual report. 

In the afternoon, Benton Supervisors took part in the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) with ISAC representatives.

A presentation for historic preservation was given for coloring contest winners. 

Board members discussed if “stop ahead” signs need to be moved due to higher speed limits. They also talked about having a place to post public notices.
